Gobble, Gobble!

Huh, where's the turkey?

You mean Miss Turkey, Gizem Memic?

(any excuse to show a wahine)

How about some Wild Turkey?

Turkey Feather recipe
2 oz Wild Turkey® bourbon whiskey
1/2 oz Drambuie® Scotch whisky
1/4 oz Amaretto Di Saronno® liqueur

Stir and strain into an old-fashioned glass three-quarters filled with broken ice. Add a slice of orange, and serve.
Serve in: Old-Fashioned Glass

Or

Horse’s Neck
2 oz bourbon (Wild Turkey not Jim Beam, hey it's turkey day, get with the program!)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
ginger ale

Coat a Collins glass with bitters. Add ice and bourbon, stir, add ginger ale and serve
with a twist of lemon.

Make sure that you enjoy an adult beverage or two tomorrow.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving. I'll see you next week.

I'll Have A Manhattan With That Boat.

Volvo Race

Boats particapting in the Volvo Ocean Race depart New York for Horsesmouth...I mean Portsmouth.

Let's have a drink in their honor.

3/4 oz sweet vermouth
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 dash Angostura® bitters
1 maraschino cherry
1 twist orange peel

Combine the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Rub the cut edge of the orange peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils but don't drop it in.

VARIATION: No bitters. Substitute a twist of lime for the cherry and orange. Hold the lime twist in a lighted match over the drink and then drop it in. The heat really zips up the lime flavor.

    Calamaro Gigante - Big Squid

In honor of the monster let's prepare some food.
    Calmari Fritto - Fried Calamari

    Ingredients
    • 1/2 to 1 pound calamari sliced into rings
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
    • Enough vegetable oil to fill bottom of heavy skillet to 1/2"

    Directions
       1. Clean calamari and keep chilled.
       2. Mix flour, paprika and cayenne in shallow bowl.
       3. Heat oil to 375 degrees.
       4. Toss a handful of calamari with flour, shake off excess.
       5. Fry for 3 or 4 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and salt to taste.

Note: Serve warm with fresh lemon slices

tidbit: Calamaro is singular, Calamari is plural.
Sidenote: I'm currently reading "The Search For The Giant Squid" by Richard Ellis.
